Blacked Out

Top (similar here and here) / Zara skirt (old, other cute alternatives here and here) / Faux leather moto jacket (my most recent purchase) / Block heel boots (similar here, here, and more options listed below) / Chanel boy bag (cheaper alternative here)

If you haven't been watching my Youtube channel lately or haven't caught up on reading my posts, I have been in the process of decluttering and editing my closet. Several trips to Goodwill/Buffalo Exchange/Crossroads later, I decided that I needed a break from the madness. While that's on hold for now, I've recently moved on to painting my second bedroom and turning it into my office.

It started out as needing to put a fresh coat of paint in the room because of a red stain on the wall. Then one thing lead to another. I found myself repainting the bathroom wall, doors, and the door frames. Then questioning myself to "what did I get myself into?"

First of all, the paint in my bathroom (which is called Maui Mist) ended up looking too blue than I expected. It's supposed to be shade of white with a teeny, tiny hint of blue, so it doesn't look too white and sterile in there. But alas, it ended up being almost looking too much of a baby blue hue. In short, I'm not liking it and will have to repaint it later on. But, I'm going to leave it for now.

Second, I had no idea what I got myself into when I decided I also wanted to give a fresh coat of paint to my doors. In the middle of it all, as I'm painting these doors by myself, I really wanted to cry. Who knew that it would take so many hours and how tedious it is to get it done?

Lionel (my adorable but naughty doggie) scratched both bedroom doors a few years ago, and I'm finally getting around to hiding his bad behavior with a coat of paint. I couldn't do just one, because it'll stick out like a sore thumb, so I did all three doors in the second bedroom. Just so that section of my place is done. Over 24 hours total later and two coats each, and I felt really accomplished and happy at the last swipe of the paint brush. I finished all three of them! The doors in my room (the master bedroom) will have to wait another day. I'm going to have to recruit my boyfriend to help me out when he gets back. Another project on hold.

This is one of those times when I bit more than I can chew. In my head, it seemed like it wasn't going to take that much time at all until you actually start doing it. I'm just glad that I started it and got it done. I gave myself a deadline to finish it some time this week and was determined to finish it. It might have been my OCD tendencies kicking in to no longer see the mess in the hallway. I guess you can say that was my greatest motivator. I couldn't get anything else done until I finished doing the updates I planned for in the second room.

Ok, I understand that my story has nothing to do with this outfit post. But I just wanted to share what's been going on lately with my life.

With the recent wardrobe editing, I'm still continuing to shop my closet before adding any new items in the mix. Since I'm honing it down to key pieces that best define my style, I'm trying to see which pieces I still want to keep by putting outfits together.

It's been awhile since I've had a proper date night since the bf has been away. I've been spending a lot of time in either shorts, jeans, or pjs.

This outfit would be an edgier date night or dressier outfit if I don't want to wear a little black dress (lbd). It's a simple black top tucked into a lace-hemmed skirt. Since it's been a little nippy lately on the westside, a faux leather moto jacket seems appropriate. I know some might scoff that a faux leather jacket seems a little too warm for the summer nights here, but I get cold easily. I like how this jacket gives the outfit a little bit of an attitude to contrast the feminine lace detail of the skirt.

For boots, I really like these block heel high ankle boots. The pair I'm wearing are from Zara which are also my favorite pair of boots that I own. I got them a few years ago, but here are some similar styles from different brands in case you are interested:

(Check out similar styles from: Steve Madden, Vince, Topshop, Sam Edelman, Rebecca Minkoff, and Saint Laurent)

I like the higher ankle shaft of these boots. For some reason it makes it a little bit dressier for me. The block heel and tiny platform also makes it much more easier to walk in them which makes them perfect for date night.
